H.E. Zehra Zümrüt SELÇUK met with H.E. Mohammed A M HAWEG, Minister of Economy and Trade of the State of Libya, on the sidelines of the 39^th Ministerial Session of the COMCEC, on 5 December 2023 in Istanbul, Türkiye.

The discussions focused on exploring potential areas of collaboration between SESRIC and the Ministry of Economy and Trade of Libya, with a particular emphasis on SESRIC’s capacity-building initiatives.

SESRIC coordinates a wide range of activities in support of 21 sector-specific capacity-building programs that benefit OIC countries. It’s worth noting that Libyan national institutions have benefited from a total of 50 activities related to capacity-building and technical cooperation since the inception of these programs. During the meeting, H.E. SELÇUK highlighted the strong collaboration between SESRIC and Libya under the BINA Program conducted from 2017 to 2021. The BINA Program, an International Development Program, aimed to assist fragile states like Libya in overcoming their challenges by rebuilding human and institutional capacity based on professionalism, efficiency, transparency, and good governance.

Before concluding, the parties expressed their readiness and willingness to further strengthen their existing cooperation ties and coordinate on new initiatives that would benefit the relevant national institutions in Libya in particular and the OIC countries in general.
