SESRIC Participated in the 22nd Meeting of COMCEC Poverty Alleviation Working Group

SESRIC participated in the 22nd Meeting of the Standing Committee for Economic and Commercial Cooperation (COMCEC) Poverty Alleviation Working Group, held virtually on 2 May 2024. The meeting focused on the theme “Alleviating Adverse Effects of Natural Disasters on Poor Segments of Society in the OIC Member Countries”.

The meeting commenced with a presentation of a preliminary research report draft, which was specifically prepared for the meeting's theme. The meeting also included presentations from representatives of OIC countries, international institutions, and NGOs, such as Türkiye, the World Food Programme (WFP) and the Turkish Red Crescent (KIZILAY). Representatives shared their experiences and best practices in providing aid to the vulnerable people affected by natural disasters.

During the meeting, participants discussed the challenges faced by vulnerable groups during both the the emergency and recovery phases of natural disasters. SESRIC actively contributed to the discussions by providing a comprehensive overview of its research, statistics, and training initiatives dedicated to poverty alleviation.
