Venue: Virtual-SESRIC, Ankara - Türkiye

Within the framework of its Statistical Capacity Building (StatCaB) Programme, SESRIC organized an online Training Course on “Environment Statistics” on 29-30 April 2025. The course brought together 120 statisticians and experts from National Statistical Offices (NSOs) and relevant ministries of 14 Arabic-speaking OIC countries.

The sessions were delivered by distinguished environment-statistics specialists from the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) of Egypt, whose expertise and practical insights underpinned the success of the programme.

The course aimed to strengthen participants’ capacity to compile, analyse and disseminate high-quality environment statistics in line with the UN Framework for the Development of Environment Statistics (FDES 2013). Key topics covered included:

  • Introduction to Environment Statistics
  • Environmental Data and Indicators
  • Data Sources of Environmental Statistics
  • Classification of Indicators Related to Environment Statistics
  • The Need for a Framework for Developing Environmental Statistics
  • Egypt's Experience in Implementing the Framework for the Development of Environmental Statistics

Over two days, participants engaged in focused presentations, Q&A segments and peer-to-peer discussions on challenges such as data availability, indicator selection and inter-agency coordination. The training aligns with SESRIC’s commitment to support OIC countries in monitoring environmental dimensions of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, especially SDG Targets under Goals 6, 12, 13, 14 and 15.
