Date: 22 April 2025
Venue: Virtual, Ankara - Türkiye

SESRIC participated in the 23rd Meeting of the Standing Committee for Economic and Commercial Cooperation (COMCEC) Financial Cooperation Working Group, held on 22 April 2025. The meeting focused on the theme “Promoting Sustainable and Environmentally Friendly Islamic Financial Instruments to Combat the Adverse Effects of Climate Change and Natural Disasters in the OIC Member Countries.” It brought together 58 representatives from relevant national public and private institutions of OIC member countries, as well as international and regional organisations.

Discussions centred on leveraging Islamic finance tools, recognised for their inherent green and sustainable nature, as alternative solutions to the climate and natural disaster challenges within OIC member countries.

The first session covered the objectives of the COMCEC-funded research project and its initial findings, which compared OIC member countries' climate and natural disaster readiness alongside their preparedness for developing Islamic finance. In the second session, Indonesia and Türkiye shared their experiences and recent initiatives aligning Islamic finance with the green economy. The final session featured a presentation by IsDB outlining the overall situation in OIC member countries, alongside IsDB’s projects and funding initiatives aimed at addressing these challenges.

During the meeting, COMCEC also introduced its Project Support Programs, announced annually on specific themes for the benefit of OIC member countries and institutions.
