SESRIC held a technical cooperation meeting with the National Institute of Disaster Management - National Disaster Management Authority (NIDM-NDMA) of Pakistan on 26 June 2025 to explore potential areas of cooperation between the two institutions.

During the meeting, SESRIC introduced the Centre’s key areas of work, particularly in data collection, research, and training across OIC countries. The Centre shared updates on ongoing and completed initiatives, including a five-year seismological research project conducted in Pakistan with support from the Islamic Development Bank, which concluded in 2023.

In turn, the representatives from NIDM-NDMA presented the Institute’s structure and ongoing activities, highlighting efforts to standardize disaster training curricula, including a new module on community-based disaster risk management.

The meeting also featured discussion on the role of the National Disaster Management Authority of Pakistan in national policymaking, training, and regional collaboration.

Both sides expressed strong interest in future cooperation, particularly in the areas of disaster risk management training, joint project development, and active participation in OIC-wide knowledge exchange initiatives.

The National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM) is Pakistan’s key training and research body for disaster risk reduction, operating under the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA). NDMA, the country’s lead agency for disaster policy and coordination, functions under the Prime Minister’s Office and oversees national preparedness, response, and recovery efforts.
