SESRIC held an expert-level meeting with OSH experts of the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) of Malaysia on 30 June 2025 prior to the PRE-MARINA Workshop, to explore potential areas of cooperation between the two institutions.

During the meeting, SESRIC introduced its key areas of work, with a particular focus on the OIC Occupational Safety and Health Network (OIC-OSHNET) and the SESRIC Occupational Safety and Health Capacity Building Programme (OSH-CaB). These initiatives aim to enhance OSH standards across OIC Member Countries through knowledge sharing, training, and collaborative projects.

The experts from NIOSH Malaysia, in turn, provided an overview of the institute’s organizational structure and ongoing activities. They highlighted the wide range of training courses offered by NIOSH as well as their extensive research efforts in the field of OSH. The discussions also covered the Institute’s role in national OSH policymaking, professional training, and regional cooperation, underscoring Malaysia’s active contribution to OSH development at both the national and regional levels.

Both institutions expressed strong interest in establishing future cooperation in various areas, including OSH training, joint project development, and active participation in OIC-wide knowledge exchange initiatives. NIOSH also conveyed its keen interest in formalising and strengthening its collaboration with SESRIC. Furthermore, NIOSH requested SESRIC’s support in establishing connections with OSH research institutions across OIC countries to facilitate comprehensive joint research in the field of occupational safety and health.

The National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) is Malaysia’s leading training and research institution in the field of OSH. Operating under the Ministry of Human Resources of Malaysia, NIOSH plays a significant role in promoting workplace safety, providing accredited training programmes, conducting OSH-related research, and supporting national policy development to ensure a safe and healthy workforce across the country.
