Training Course on ‘Zero Waste Strategies for Greener Future’

Within the framework of the Environment Capacity Building Programme (Environment-CaB), SESRIC, in collaboration with the Islamic Organisation for Food Security (IOFS), organised a Virtual Training Course on “Zero Waste Strategies for Greener Future” on 16-17 July 2025 via an online video conferencing platform.

The training course featured experts from the Islamic Organisation for Food Security (IOFS), the Lebanese American University, the Centre of Waste Management Indonesia (CMWI), the Agricultural Genetic Engineering Research Institute (AGERI) of Egypt, and the National University of Medical Sciences of Pakistan. The activity brought together 139 participants from relevant ministries and national institutions responsible for environmental and agricultural policies in OIC countries.

The course aimed to strengthen the institutional and technical capacities of stakeholders from member countries in designing and implementing zero waste strategies that foster environmental sustainability, promote circular economy practices, and support sustainable food systems and resource efficiency, in line with national priorities and international development goals.

The two-day activity covered the following key topics:

  • A Circular Economy as a Way for a Greener Future
  • IOFS Database & Data Analytics
  • From Waste to Worth: Rethinking Food Waste Management
  • Transitioning Towards a Zero Waste Society: How Academic Institutions Can Lead the Way
  • Tech-Driven Circular Economy: Innovation from Indonesia’s Waste Management Ecosystem
