Date: 09 July 2025
Venue: Kuala Lumpur - Malaysia

H.E. Zehra Zümrüt SELÇUK held a fruitful bilateral meeting with H.E. Suhaimi ALI, Assistant Governor of Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM), to discuss ways and means of enhancing the existing good ties between SESRIC and BNM, with an emphasis on advancing Islamic banking and finance as a key driver of economic development.

During the meeting, both sides acknowledged the value of strengthening collaboration in areas aligned with their respective mandates. H.E. SELÇUK emphasized SESRIC’s commitment to promoting banking and finance sector across OIC countries and highlighted the importance of leveraging expertise through joint projects for the benefit of Central Banks and monetary authorities in the OIC region, building on previous successful cooperation in this field with BNM.

H.E. ALI, on the other hand, underscored the relevance of the Malaysia International Islamic Financial Centre (MIFC), a strategic initiative supported by BNM, as a valuable platform for advancing Islamic finance globally. H.E. SELÇUK expressed interest in engaging with MIFC and other affiliated institutions such as INCEIF, to develop initiatives and capacity-building activities tailored to the needs of OIC countries.

By proposing a more focused and practical approach—particularly aimed at supporting less developed OIC countries—SESRIC emphasized its intent to deepen collaboration with BNM through a strategic framework that prioritizes joint activities, technical contributions, and targeted capacity-building efforts in areas related to banking and finance.

The meeting concluded with both parties agreeing to enhance cooperation through shared initiatives aimed at advancing capacities in banking and related areas.
