Within the framework of the OIC Statistical Commission (OIC StatCom) Strategic Vision 2030 and its Programme of Action (2021-2025), SESRIC, in its capacity as the Secretariat of the OIC StatCom, will organise an Expert Group Meeting (EGM) on the Development of an Islamic Tourism Indicators Framework on 3 September 2025 via an online video conferencing platform.

The EGM will bring together officials from National Statistical Offices (NSOs) and Ministries of Tourism of OIC Member Countries, alongside representatives of relevant OIC and international organisations, including the Islamic Centre for Development of Trade (ICDT), the Standards and Metrology Institute for Islamic Countries (SMIIC), and UN Tourism.

The meeting aims to present key findings of the 2024 Islamic Tourism Indicators module integrated into the SESRIC StatCaB Questionnaire; facilitate focused exchanges toward a statistical working definition of Islamic tourism to support measurement and comparability; discuss indicator domains, core and supplementary indicators with related metadata and feasible data sources, and outline next steps for collaboration among interested members and partners.
