Capacity Building Workshop on ‘Sustainable Water Management for OIC Member States’

Within the framework of SESRIC Water Resources Management Capacity Building Programme (Water-CaB) and in line with Resolution No. 5/50-S&T, adopted by the 50th Session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministries (CFM), the Centre, in collaboration with ICESCO and COMSTECH, organised a virtual Capacity Building Workshop on “Sustainable Water Management for OIC Member States,” on 15-16 October 2025.

The workshop brought together 45 water experts from the relevant water authorities and institutions across 15 OIC countries (Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Jordan, Maldives, Morocco, Oman, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Suriname, Türkiye, and UAE).

The competent experts from Brawijaya University of Indonesia, Agricultural Research Council and Directorate General of the Southern Zone Agricultural Research Centre (SARC) of Pakistan, General Directorate of State Hydraulic Works (DSI) and the General Directorate of Water Management (GDWM) of Türkiye contributed to the workshop orkshop by sharing their valuable experiences and insights.

The workshop covered the following key topics:

  • Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) Principles.
  • Advanced Irrigation Management and Water-Use Efficiency.
  • Strategic Wastewater Treatment and Safe Reuse.
  • Adaptation to Climate Change and Sustainable Water Management.
  • Embracing Water Value, Circular Economy, and Resilience
  • National Experiences on Water Good Practices and Climate Resilient Water Management.

The workshop aimed to strengthen the capacities of water professionals across OIC countries by providing them with practical skills in advanced irrigation management, wastewater reuse, and climate adaptation strategies. Its primary goal was to promote the adoption of Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) principles to enhance water-use efficiency in agriculture. In addition, the workshop served as a platform for sharing knowledge, experiences, and best practices among OIC Member States, thereby fostering collaboration, building resilience, and contributing to the achievement of SDG 6.
