SESRIC participated in Panel Discussion on ‘South-South and Triangular Cooperation (SSTC) Opportunities for Türkiye in Supporting the National Efforts Towards Agrifood Systems Transformation’

SESRIC participated in the panel discussion organised within the scope of World Food Day 2025, held under the theme “South-South and Triangular Cooperation (SSTC) Opportunities for Türkiye in Supporting the National Efforts Towards Agrifood Systems Transformation”. The event was jointly organised by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA).

The event brought together around 100 representatives from government institutions, international organisations, and development agencies to discuss collaborative approaches aimed at enhancing the resilience and sustainability of agri-food systems. The opening remarks, delivered by representatives of FAO, Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of the Republic of Türkiye, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Türkiye, and TİKA, highlighted the importance of South-South and Triangular Cooperation (SSTC) as a key mechanism for addressing shared challenges in agriculture and food security.

During the panel discussion, SESRIC representative shared insights on the Centre’s efforts in utilising SSTC mechanisms through its various programmes and initiatives, particularly under its Agriculture and Food Security, Cotton, Environment, Disaster Risk Management, and Water Resources Management Capacity Building Programmes, which are relevant to the theme of the event. In addition, SESRIC representative emphasized the Centre’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with FAO, TİKA, and other national and international partners to promote innovative and sustainable agricultural practices across the OIC countries, in alignment with the objectives of the OIC Programme of Action and the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Panelists emphasized Türkiye’s experience in agricultural transformation and technical cooperation as a valuable model for supporting capacity-building and addressing the needs in partner countries. Discussions also underlined the role of TİKA in facilitating cooperation through the mobilization of technical expertise and the implementation of projects that contribute to inclusive growth and the efficient use of existing resources in achieving the SDGs. The session addressed topics such as the persistence of global hunger, the fragility of supply chains, the effects of climate change, and the growing necessity for coordinated international action.
