Webinar on ‘Social Protection Statistics’

As part of its Statistical Experience Sharing Webinar Series, SESRIC, in collaboration with the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) and the International Labour Organization (ILO), organised a Webinar on “Social Protection Statistics” on 20 January 2026. Competent experts from The State Statistical Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan, BPS-Indonesia, Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM), National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) of Oman, and the Turkish Statistical Institute (TURKSTAT) shared their country experiences on social protection. The Webinar was attended by 74 official statisticians and experts from the National Statistical Offices (NSOs) and line ministries of 34 OIC countries.

The main aim of the webinar was to strengthen the capacity of National Statistical Offices (NSOs) of OIC Member Countries in producing, integrating, and using high-quality social protection statistics for evidence-based policymaking.

Specifically, the webinar aimed to:

  • Enhance understanding of international concepts, classifications, and indicators related to social protection statistics;
  • Promote the effective use of administrative data and improved coordination between NSOs and relevant line ministries;
  • Share good practices and country experiences in measuring social protection coverage, adequacy, and expenditure;
  • Discuss approaches to strengthening social protection statistics in crisis and post-crisis contexts;
  • Identify opportunities for technical assistance and capacity building under SESRIC’s Statistical Capacity Building (StatCaB) Programme.
