SESRIC Participates in Sustainable Tourism Forum & Expo in Karachi

Date: 21-22 January 2026
Venue: Karachi - Pakistan

SESRIC participated in the Sustainable Tourism Forum & Expo, organized by the Islamic Chamber of Commerce and Development (ICCD) on 21–22 January 2026 in Karachi, Pakistan. The event brought together policymakers, experts, private sector representatives and development partners to discuss trends, challenges and opportunities in advancing sustainable tourism.

Dr. Davron Ishnazarov, Researcher at SESRIC, spoke at the panel on “Investment & Partnerships in Sustainable Tourism,” highlighting the importance of integrated investments in transport and mobility, digital infrastructure, local community empowerment, and the protection and promotion of cultural and natural heritage for inclusive and sustainable tourism development. He underlined that cultural and natural heritage constitute core economic assets for OIC countries, which collectively host 237 UNESCO World Heritage Sites—nearly 20% of the world’s total.

Dr. Ishnazarov also emphasized that sustainable tourism should be viewed as a transformation of mainstream tourism, contributing to inclusive growth, resilience and environmental sustainability when embedded in national development strategies through effective partnerships.

He concluded by reaffirming SESRIC’s efforts to supporting OIC countries through evidence-based research, statistics, capacity-building programmes and strengthened cooperation with relevant OIC institutions and international partners.
