Within the framework of its Statistical Capacity Building (StatCaB) Programme, SESRIC organised a Statistical Training Course on “Transport Statistics” for the benefit of 160 participants from National Statistical Offices and relevant national institutions of 24 OIC Countries on 9-10 February 2026 through an online video conferencing platform.

The training course was conducted by competent experts from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat). The course aimed to enhance participants’ knowledge and technical capacities in the production, analysis and dissemination of transport statistics, while sharing Türkiye’s experience and good practices in this field.

The training course covered the following topics:

• Introduction to TurkStat and the Turkish statistical system, including institutional structure, the Official Statistics Programme of Türkiye, statistical coordination, and data quality aspects of transport statistics;
• Overview of transport statistics;
• Future directions at TurkStat in the context of transport statistics;
• Methodologies for land and air transport statistics;
• Overview of maritime and pipeline statistics;
• Other transport-related studies and the role of international organisations, including global trends, data sharing, and international cooperation.
