H.E. Zehra Zümrüt SELÇUK delivered welcoming remarks at the panel discussion on “Social Safety Nets for Older Persons and Persons with Disabilities” on 8 June 2026. She stressed the importance of inclusive social protection and referred to relevant policy recommendations and the OIC Action Plan for Persons with Disabilities.

H.E. SELÇUK noted that the global share of people aged 65 and above is projected to increase from 10.4% in 2025 to 16.3% in 2050, while the older population in OIC countries is expected to more than double. She highlighted overlapping barriers to income security and services, persistent data gaps and the need for comprehensive protection systems rooted in solidarity and strengthened OIC cooperation.
