The opening session of the 9th OIC Ministerial Conference on Women took place in Islamabad on 13 July 2026. The conference was jointly organised by the OIC General Secretariat and Pakistan’s Ministry of Human Rights to review progress and priorities for women’s empowerment in OIC Member Countries.

The opening featured remarks by H.E. Amal AMMAR of Egypt’s National Council for Women, H.E. Azam Nazir TARAR, Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Human Rights, and H.E. Tareq Ali BAKHEET, OIC Assistant Secretary-General, representing the OIC Secretary-General. H.E. Syed Yousaf Raza GILANI, Chairman of Pakistan’s Senate, also addressed the gathering. Discussions included implementation of the OIC Plan of Action for the Advancement of Women (OPAAW), remaining challenges and exchanges of good practices.
