A SESRIC delegation, headed by H.E. Zehra Zümrüt SELÇUK, participated in Oman Climate Week, hosted by the Environment Authority of Oman from 14 to 16 September 2026.

H.E. Zehra Zümrüt SELÇUK delivered a keynote address at the Women and Climate Summit, held as part of Oman Climate Week, focusing on the role of women in advancing the climate and green transition across OIC countries.

She noted that approximately 1.1 billion women live in OIC countries, accounting for nearly half of the OIC population. She highlighted the significant progress achieved in women’s empowerment across most OIC countries.

She further underscored that OIC countries possess only 13% of the world’s renewable water resources while accounting for more than a quarter of the global population, and that only around half of OIC countries have significantly increased their share of renewable energy since 2015.

She called for women to be recognised not merely as a target group, but as active decision-makers in the implementation of climate and development policies. She concluded by reaffirming SESRIC’s commitment to translating policy priorities into concrete action through its data, capacity-building and research activities across OIC countries.
