H.E. Zehra Zümrüt SELÇUK paid a visit to the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) of the Sultanate of Oman, where she met with H.E. Dr. Khalifa AL BARWANI, Chief Executive Officer of the NCSI, on 16 September 2026 in Muscat.

During the meeting, H.E. Dr. AL BARWANI underscored the importance of SESRIC’s Statistical Capacity Building (StatCaB) Programme and the OIC Statistical Commission (OIC-StatCom) in enhancing national statistical capacities and promoting institutional cooperation and knowledge exchange among OIC Member Countries.

The two sides reviewed the longstanding cooperation between SESRIC and the NCSI and explored opportunities to further strengthen the NCSI’s role as a provider of expertise within the StatCaB Programme, particularly in areas including digital census operations, statistical quality management and data dissemination.

Over the years, the NCSI has benefited from approximately 100 statistical capacity development activities organised by SESRIC, reflecting the longstanding and sustained cooperation between the two institutions. The NCSI has also maintained an active role within the OIC statistical community, including through its chairmanship of the 13th Session of the OIC Statistical Commission (OIC-StatCom) in 2024, representing the OIC Arab Group.

The meeting reaffirmed the commitment of both institutions to further strengthening their cooperation and facilitating the exchange of knowledge, expertise and best practices in support of statistical capacity development across OIC Member Countries.
