The project entitled “Enhancing Genome Editing and Crop Biotechnology Capacity for Climate-Resilient Agriculture in OIC Member Countries” (Project No. 2025-PAKAGRIC-408), submitted under the 13th COMCEC Project Call, has been successfully approved for funding. The project is led by the Centre of Excellence in Molecular Biology (CEMB), University of the Punjab, Pakistan, in cooperation with partner institutions from Azerbaijan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
As the first activity of the project, the Hands-on Intensive Training on CRISPR/Cas9 Genome Editing for Climate-Resilient Cotton is being held on 22–25 September 2026 in Lahore, Pakistan. The training brings together experts and participants to strengthen technical capacities in genome editing and crop biotechnology, with a particular focus on CRISPR/Cas9 applications for climate-resilient cotton.
As part of the training programme, Ms. Alia Şerifi ORTAK, Senior Training Officer at SESRIC, delivered a presentation on SESRIC’s activities in agriculture and training and capacity building, with particular emphasis on the Agri-CaB and Cotton-CaB programmes. The presentation highlighted SESRIC’s efforts to support knowledge and experience sharing, technical capacity development and cooperation among OIC Member Countries in the fields of agriculture and cotton.
The project provides a platform for participating institutions and OIC Member Countries to exchange knowledge and expertise in genome editing and crop biotechnology and to explore opportunities for strengthening climate-resilient agricultural practices.
