A SESRIC delegation, headed by H.E. Zehra Zümrüt SELÇUK, Director General of SESRIC, participated in the 9th World Investment Forum, organised by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) and hosted by the State of Qatar under the patronage of H.E. Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman AL THANI, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar.
The Forum provided an international platform for policymakers, investment promotion agencies, business leaders, international organisations and other stakeholders to exchange perspectives on global investment trends and explore strategies for mobilising investment in support of sustainable and inclusive development. Its programme addressed a broad range of emerging priorities, including global value chains, investment opportunities, artificial intelligence, climate finance, energy security, tourism and emerging investment markets, with particular emphasis on directing capital towards sustainable development objectives.
As part of its participation, H.E. Zehra Zümrüt SELÇUK addressed the plenary session entitled “Investing Beyond GDP for Sustainable and Inclusive Progress”, contributing to discussions on the role of investment in advancing broader development outcomes beyond conventional economic indicators. In addition, SESRIC co-organised a regional seminar on foreign direct investment (FDI) statistics in OIC Member Countries in collaboration with UNCTAD. The seminar provided a platform to discuss developments, challenges and opportunities in the compilation and use of FDI statistics, with a view to strengthening statistical capacities and supporting evidence-based investment policymaking across the OIC region.
On the margins of the Forum, the SESRIC delegation also held high-level bilateral meetings to exchange views on areas of mutual interest and explore opportunities for enhanced cooperation with relevant national and international partners.
SESRIC’s participation in the Forum reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening cooperation among OIC Member Countries and supporting initiatives that promote sustainable investment, robust statistical systems and evidence-based policymaking. Through its engagement with international partners, the Centre continued to contribute to advancing investment-related knowledge and cooperation in support of inclusive economic growth and sustainable development across the OIC region.
