Fifth Meeting of the Steering Committee of the Islamic Conference of Health Ministers

Fifth Meeting of the Steering Committee of the Islamic Conference of Health Ministers was held at the OIC Headquarters in Jeddah on 31 January – 1 February 2012. The purpose of the Steering Committee Meeting was to review actions taken on the resolutions adopted by the First, Second Islamic Conferences of Health Ministers, and discuss the implementation of the resolutions adopted by the Third Islamic Conference of Health Ministers which was held in Astana, Republic of Kazakhstan on 29 September - 1 October 2011. The Meeting was attended by the members of the Steering Committee and SESRIC was represented by Mr. Mazhar Hussain, Researcher, thereat.

The Meeting reviewed the status of the implementation of the resolutions of the Islamic Conferences of Health Ministers, and listened to the reports on actions taken by the Members of the Steering Committee with regard to the decisions of the Islamic Conferences of Health Ministers. Mr. Hussain briefed the participants about the SESRIC’s health-related activities and expressed willingness and readiness of SESRIC to play an active role in the preparation of the OIC Strategic Health Programme of Action 2013-2022. Acknowledging the importance of SESRIC’s activities in the domain of health, the Meeting accepted the offer made by SESRIC to lead the preparation of the draft OIC Strategic Health Programme of Action 2013-2022. It directed SESRIC to coordinate with IDB in line with the approved Terms of Reference for the preparation of the document. In this regard the meeting also underlined the need for close collaboration with the OIC General Secretariat, the Steering Committee of Health and relevant international agencies and organizations.
