Training Course on 'Labour Force Statistics' in Afghanistan

The Centre organised training course on “Labour Force Statistics” at the Central Statistics Organization (CSO) Afghanistan, on 22-24 October 2012. The course was provided by Ms. Saidah Hashim, an expert from the Department of Statistics (DOS) Malaysia, and was attended by the related staff members of the Central Statistics Organization (CSO) Afghanistan.

The training course on “Labour Force Statistics” mainly covered the following subjects:

  • The purpose of statistics on the Labour Force
    • Macro-economic planning
    • Employment policies
    • Income support
    • Determinants of labour market
    • International comparability
  • Basic concepts and definitions of statistics related to Labour Force stipulated by ILO
    • The main indicators on Labour Force
    • Importance of each indicator
  • Process flow of a Labour Force Survey
    • Requirements of a sample frame
    • Developing the survey questionnaire and manuals
    • Data processing systems – Manual vs. computer processing
    • Tabulation and analysis of the results
    • Preparation of data for dissemination

The aim of this training course was to improve the statistical capacity building and performance of the Central Statistics Organization (CSO) Afghanistan on “Labour Force Statistics”.
