SESRIC Participated in RAILVET Project Meeting

Statistical, Economic and Social Research and Training Centre for Islamic Countries (SESRIC) was represented in the 2nd Railway Seminar – Closing Ceremony of the Railway Operation in ECVET (RAILVET) Project in Ankara, Turkey on 5-6 December 2012 by Mr. Efe Kerem Aydin, Centre’s Research Assistant.

The meeting and ceremony was attended by partners of the RAILVET project namely, Turkish State Railways (TCDD), International Union of Railways (UIC) of France, Nautica San Giorgio of Italy, National Institute of Vocational Education and Training of Czech Republic and Slovakia. Ministry of National Education (MoNE) of the Republic of Turkey, Turkish National Agency, HAK-İŞ Confederation, Vocational Proficiency Institution and were also present.

RAILVET is a “Development of Innovation (DoI)” project supported by the Leonardo da Vinci Programme (LLP) of the European Union. It is a two-year project (2010-2012) which brings together a consortium from five different countries in Europe Turkey, France, Italy, Czech Republic and Slovakia. The project aimed to develop curriculum for the job family “railway-operation” by adapting it to European Credit system for Vocational Education and Training (ECVET) which aims to give people greater control over their individual learning experiences and make it more attractive to move between different countries and different learning environments. As a result of the project, it is estimated that 11.000 train drivers and 20.000 other rail related staff will be trained in a year for the sector employing roughly 900.000 people.

SESRIC will organise a study visit on ‘Railway System Technologies’ in the Eskisehir Middle East Training Centre in collaboration with the TCDD and MoNE, on 17-21 December 2012 in Eskisehir, Turkey. For more information on the study visit click here.
