5th Meeting of the Delegates of the National Statistical Offices of the OIC Member Countries

SESRIC, in its capacity as the Secretariat of OIC-StatCom, organised the Fifth Meeting of the Delegates of the National Statistical Offices (NSOs) of the OIC Member Countries on 28 February 2013 in New York, United States of America as a side event in the margins of the 44th Session of the United Nations Statistical Commission (UNSC). The delegates of the NSOs of the OIC Member Countries attended the meeting that aimed to get their comments and feedback on the tentative agenda of the Third Session of the OIC Statistical Commission.

Moderated by Dr. Yasin Elhag Abdin Ibrahim Elamin, Director General of the Central Bureau of Statistics of Sudan; the meeting started with a briefing by Mr. Atilla Karaman, Senior Researcher, on the progress recorded by the four Technical Committees of Experts (TCE) of OIC-StatCom. Prof. Savaş Alpay, Director General of SESRIC, stated that the relevant draft final documents of the OIC-StatCom TCEs would be sent to the member NSOs by March 2013.

Afterwards, the delegates of the OIC Member Countries shared their feedback on the draft agenda items of the upcoming OIC-StatCom session and confirmed to hold the Third Session of the OIC-StatCom on 10-12 April 2013 at SESRIC Headquarters in Ankara, Turkey.

Following the discussions on the Third Session of OIC-StatCom, the meeting ended with the presentation of Dr. Abdullateef Bello, Director of Economic Research and Policy Department of the Islamic Development Bank, that introduced the DfID Fund Phase-II for the OIC Countries of the MENA Region. The DfID representative explained the terms and conditions of the fund, an amount of £1 million, available to the NSOs in the MENA region.
