Training Course on ‘Living Conditions and Poverty Statistics’ in Qatar

In accordance with its 2016 Annual Work Plan and within the framework of Statistical Capacity Building (StatCaB) Programme, SESRIC has organised the Training Course on ‘Living Conditions and Poverty Statistics’ at Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics (MDPS) of State of Qatar on 4-8 September 2016.

The Training Course was conducted by Ms. Maha Dawass, Head of Poverty Division of Department of Statistics (DOS) of Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan with the participation of 21 officials of the MDPS.

As defined in the Classification of Statistical Activities (CSA Rev. 1 - October 2009; http://goo.gl/olg3Tz); Living conditions, poverty and cross-cutting social issues – included work on multidimensional methods to measure poverty, living conditions in the broad sense, social inclusion/exclusion, social indicators, and social situation.

The Training Course on ‘Living Conditions and Poverty Statistics’ included discussion activities with a focus on the following topics:

  • Definition of surveys-expenditure and consumption survey-panel surveys coordination council on quality
  • Data sources of measurement and analysis of poverty and inequality
  • Methods of analysis of expenditure and income data
  • Poverty concepts
  • Determining poverty line
  • Measuring poverty indicators
  • Poverty profile
  • Measuring inequality indicators
