Theoritical and Practical Training Course on ‘Occupational Safety and Health’

SESRIC organised a Theoritical and Practical training course on‘Occupational Safety and Health’ within the framework of Occupational Safety and Health Capacity Building (OSHCaB) Programme of OIC Member Countries in Kampala, Uganda on 30 January–02 February, 2017. The course was provided by 2 experts from Ministry of Labour and Social Security, Republic of Turkey . The target group of this training course were experts from Federation of Uganda Employers , National Organisation of Trade Unions (NOTU), Nakawa Vocational Training Institute, College of Engineering, Design, Art and Technology, Makerere University, National Social Security Fund (NSSF).

The training course was for 4 days, three days for theoritical knowledge and the 4th day was used for practical work where by capacity analysis vists were conducted to end the programme. The training on Theoritical and Practical training course on‘Occupational Safety and Health’” mainly focused on the following topics:

  • To skill and re-skill, the staff of the Occupational safety and health department and other stakeholders within and without the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development with best practices in risk assessment and mitigation measures at workplaces.
  • To provide a platform for occupational safety and health practitioners in the relevant authorities, Ministries and organizations in both Uganda and Turkey to share and exchange experiences.
  • To provide an insight into the role and capacity of Social partners (Employers’ and Employees’ organisations) in mainstreaming OSH management issues in their day today activities.
  • To provide an insight into the role and capacity of higher Educational Institutions (University and Vocational) in mainstreaming OSH issues in their curriculum.
  • To identify challenges/gaps in the management of OSH issues in this country.
