First Meeting of the Joint Monitoring Group (JMG) of the Capacity Development Project on ‘Improving Occupational Safety and Health in Mauritania’

SESRIC organized the First Meeting of Joint Monitoring Group (JMG) of the Capacity Development Project on “Improving Occupational Safety and Health in Mauritania” in partnership with Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) and the General Directorate of Occupational Health and Safety of Turkey, hosted by the National Office of Occupational Medicine of Mauritania (ONMT) on 18-20 June 2018 in Nouakchott, Mauritania.

The main objective of the technical meeting was to overview the progress of the project and to review the technical specification document prepared for the devices and equipment to be procured by TIKA with the support of technical experts participating in this study. Additionally, it was aimed to monitor the current status of the new building of the ONMT where the new devices and equipment of OSH laboratory will be established and operated.

At the end of the technical meeting and field visit, all the partners highlighted the strategic importance of the project, with a view to the significance of addressing the occupational and safety challenges of Mauritania and the role of ONMT in addressing these in a sustainable manner. With this aim, a time schedule for the rest of the project was revised and a clear roadmap was prepared and adopted by all the partners to be followed in a more comprehensive manner.
