Sixth Meeting of the Lead Country Coordinators’ Group and Thirteenth Meeting of the OIC Steering Committee on Health

The Sixth Meeting of the Lead Country Coordinators’ Group (LCCG) and the Thirteenth Meeting of the OIC Steering Committee on Health (SCH) was held in Abu Dhabi, State of United Arab Emirates on 07-08 October 2019 respectively. Representatives of Indonesia, Malaysia, Mauritania, Uganda, Saudi Arabia and Turkey as well as the host country, the State of United Arab Emirates; OIC General Secretariat; relevant OIC institutions namely, SESRIC and IsDB, and international organizations namely, WHO and the Vaccine Alliance (GAVI) were present during the meetings.

During the Meeting of the Lead Country Coordinators’ Group (LCCG), each of the Lead Country Coordinators (LCCs) presented activity report for the period 2017-2019 and the priority activities in their respective thematic areas which they are planning to carry out in 2019-2021.

The OIC Steering Committee on Health reviewed the progress in the implementation of the OIC Strategic Health Programme of Action 2014-2023 and the resolutions adopted during the 6th Session of the Islamic Conference of Health Ministers held in Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on 5-7 December 2017. In this connection, the meeting heard the reports of the lead country coordinators of the six thematic areas of the OIC SHPA, as well as of relevant OIC Institutions, and their prospective activities they are planning to carry out during 2019-2021.

During both meetings, SESRIC reported on its activities under its mandate of statistics, research, training and technical cooperation geared to the needs of the relevant institutions in OIC Member Countries. SESRIC also gave a brief on the progress regarding the development of the OIC Health Portal which is meant to be an information sharing platform of the OIC in the health domain in order to raise awareness among partners and the general public, and strengthen external communication.
