SESRIC Organized the 2019 Training Course for OIC Junior Diplomats

SESRIC organized a training course for OIC Junior Diplomats on 26-28 November 2019, in Istanbul, Republic of Turkey. The training course marked the third iteration of the training program for OIC Junior Diplomats from OIC Member States, which SESRIC launched in 2017. This year’s training course was organized in partnership with the Diplomacy Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey and carried the theme “Conflict Resolution and Mediation”. A total of 34 junior diplomats from 28 OIC Member States benefited from the training that was delivered by four outstanding practitioners and world renowned trainers in the field of conflict resolution and mediation.

The training course was opened by speeches delivered by H.E. Mr. Nebil DABUR, Director General of SESRIC and by Prof. Dr. Mesut ÖZCAN, Director of the Diplomacy Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Turkey. The training course offered the junior diplomats training in conflict analysis, negotiation and mediation with the primary focus being on preventing and resolving disputes throughout the OIC region. The training course also presented the trainees with a comprehensive framework for how disputes begin, escalate and are resolved. Case studies of conflict situations were analyzed to develop an understanding of the issues, obstacles and problems that occur in the OIC region. The course also offered interactive engagement and simulation to advance the skills needed to carry out effective mediation and conflict resolution.

As part of the training course, the participants attended the opening ceremony of the 35th Ministerial Session of COMCEC and had the honor of a photo opportunity with H.E. Mr. Recep Tayyip ERDOĞAN, the President of the Republic of Turkey.

In his closing remarks, H.E. Mr. Nebil DABUR, congratulated the participants on finalizing the training course and expressed his confidence that the knowledge and skills acquired by the junior diplomats through the training course will be beneficial to them throughout their careers and will enhance their diplomatic competency.
