Online Training Course on ‘Tourism Statistics’ for the Benefit of Saudi Arabia

Within the framework of its Statistical Capacity Building (StatCaB) Programme, SESRIC organised an Online Training Course on ‘Tourism Statistics’ for the benefit of the General Authority for Statistics of Saudi Arabia on 18-21 January 2021.

Mrs. Malathi PONNUSAMY, Assistant Director at Economic Indicator Division, Ms. Kanagewary Ramasamy, Director of Balance of Payment Statistics Division, and Mr. Azrulnizam ZUL, Assistant Director at the Department of Statistics (DoS) Malaysia conducted the course with the participation of 7 officials from the General Authority for Statistics of Saudi Arabia and 17 experts from the NSOs of 6 OIC countries including Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Brunei, Indonesia, Pakistan and Uzbekistan.

The Online Training Course covered the following topics:

  • Introduction on tourism indicators
  • Sources of tourism data
  • Survey methodology
  • Tourism Satellite Accounts (TSA)

The course was conducted through a video conferencing platform by following synchronous learning and instruction approaches designed in line with the virtual training solutions undertaken by SESRIC in order to better serve the Centre’s training activities and keep participants motivated and engaged during this time of global crisis due to COVID-19.
