Training Course on ‘Packaging, Labeling and Pictorial Health Warnings on Tobacco Products’

Within the framework of SESRIC’s Tobacco Free OIC Capacity Building Programme (TF-CaB), the Centre organized a Training Course on “Packaging, Labeling and Pictorial Health Warnings on Tobacco Products” on 15 - 17 March 2021 through an online video conferencing platform.

The training course was provided by competent experts from the Tobacco and Alcohol Department of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of the Republic of Turkey for the benefit of 103 tobacco control experts from the Indonesian Food and Drug Authority.

The main objective of the training course was to provide insights on the regulation and implementation of health warnings on tobacco products and effectiveness of the implementation of health warnings in suppressing the prevalence of adolescent smokers. The training course also aimed to give the participants a better understanding of different types of health warnings on tobacco products that are effective in conveying the danger of smoking to the public.

The sessions of the training course covered the following topics:

  • Plain Packaging, Packaging and Health Warnings on Tobacco Products
  • Implementation of Brand and Other Requirements on Tobacco Products Packages
  • Advertising, Promotion and Sponsorship Practices and Sales Regulations in Tobacco Products
  • Success Stories and Best Practices of the Republic of Turkey on Tobacco Control
  • Success Stories of Tobacco Questions for Surveys (TQS) Integration in OIC Member Countries

This training course was designed in line with the virtual training solutions undertaken by SESRIC in order to better serve the Centre’s training activities and keep participants motivated and engaged during this difficult time of global crisis due to COVID-19 pandemic.
