Within the framework of its Occupational Safety and Health Capacity Building Programme (OSH-CaB) and in line with the OIC-OSHNET Work Plan 2021-2022, SESRIC organized a Webinar on “Occupational Safety and Health Systems (OSH) during the Pandemic: The Impact and Response” on 6 May 2021. The Webinar was conducted in French and live-streamed on SESRIC’s YouTube Channel.

In his welcoming speech, H.E. Mr. Nebil DABUR, Director General of SESRIC, highlighted that the COVID-19 pandemic has adversely affected the jobs, working environment as well as the working life, and there is a need to develop new strategies and mechanisms to create more robust and resilient OSH systems capable of withstanding future emergencies and similar crisis. He also underlined the importance of exchanging knowledge and sharing experiences and best practices among the OIC member countries during these difficult times to better respond to the impact of the pandemic at the national levels.

On behalf of the Secretariat of the OIC-OSHNET, H.E. Mr. Cafer UZUNKAYA, Director General of the General Directorate of Occupational Safety and Health at the Ministry of Labor and Social Security of the Republic of Turkey, addressed the participants and underlined the importance of OIC-OSHNET as an important Intra-OIC platform for sharing knowledge and expertise to overcome the common challenges and limitations faced in the field of OSH.

The Webinar included five presentations by senior-level representatives from the national Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) authorities of the Republic of Djibouti, Republic of Lebanon, Kingdom of Morocco, Republic of Togo, and the Republic of Tunisia. The panelists shared and exchanged the OSH experiences and practices that their respective countries have adopted during the pandemic and their future perspectives.

The Webinar highlighted the vital role of OSH systems in supporting the national emergency response policies and the importance of the revised guidelines and practices in mitigating the adverse effects of the crisis. It facilitated information exchange between experts and professionals in the field of OSH with a view to strengthening partnerships and promoting solidarity among the national OSH authorities of the OIC member countries.
