In his speech at the opening session, Mr. Fadi FARASIN, Assistant Director General of SESRIC, underlined the importance of the occupational standards as well as the related training standards and assessments for human capital development. He also touched upon the significant contribution of occupational standards in designing high-quality vocational education and training programs through ensuring direct linkage with the needs of the workplace and the overall economy. In her welcoming remarks, H.E. Mrs. Sana DARMOUL, Director General of the National Training Centre for Trainers and Training Engineering of the Republic of Tunisia, explained that their Centre, which is a non-administrative public body established in 1993, aims at developing the skills of training providers, carrying out studies and research, in particular educational research, and elaborating standards for various types of certifications. She also stressed that their Centre has in its portfolio around thirty standards covering several sectors of economic activity, and she highlighted that participants in this course would develop an understanding of how these standards were developed and how they created positive impacts on the human capital development and labour market outcomes in Tunisia.

The main objective of the training course was to provide insights into the concepts and practices of developing occupational standards as well as the utilisation of occupational standards in designing vocational qualifications and TVET programmes. The course also focused on the materials, guidelines and techniques used for the assessment of vocational qualifications and skills.

This training course was conducted in line with the virtual training solutions undertaken by SESRIC to better serve the Centre’s training activities and keep participants motivated and engaged during this challenging time of global crisis due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
