Within the framework of its Poverty Alleviation Capacity Building Programme (PA-CaB), SESRIC, in collaboration with the Ministry of Economic Inclusion, Small Business, Employment and Skills of the Kingdom of Morocco, organised a Training Workshop on “Poverty Reduction Policies and Strategies” on 15-16 November 2022 through an online video conferencing platform.

The training workshop was delivered by competent experts from the National Agency of the Promotion of Employment and Skills (ANAPEC) under the Ministry of Economic Inclusion, Small Business, Employment and Skills of the Kingdom of Morocco for the benefit of 63 experts and executives from the Ministries and relevant national institutions of 11 OIC African French-Speaking Member Countries.

The main objective of the training workshop was to provide participants with insights into the development of effective policies and strategies for reducing poverty in order to promote socioeconomic development and enhance the well-being of the people in the OIC Member Countries. The workshop also provided an opportunity to share the challenges and obstacles that relevant national institutions face in this domain and highlight best practices and lessons learned from the OIC region.

The training workshop commenced with the opening remarks of Mr. Onur ÇAĞLAR, Director of the Training and Technical Cooperation Department at SESRIC. Mr. ÇAĞLAR began his speech by thanking the Ministry of Economic Inclusion, Small Business, Employment and Skills of the Kingdom of Morocco for its valuable cooperation with SESRIC in delivering the relevant technical sessions of the training workshop and sharing the vast expertise of Morocco in this important domain. Poverty is still the greatest worldwide challenge of our time, and it remains a major concern, particularly in Sub-Saharan Africa, he added. He also stated that eradicating extreme poverty is a critical priority of the international development community as ending poverty in all its forms is the first of the 17 SDGs adopted by the United Nations, and poverty alleviation is among the 18 priority areas of the OIC-2025 Programme of Action.

In her welcoming remarks, Mrs. Halima SALAK, Head of the Partnership and Cooperation Division of the National Agency of the Promotion of Employment and Skills (ANAPEC) under the Ministry of Economic Inclusion, Small Business, Employment and Skills of the Kingdom of Morocco, expressed her gratitude to SESRIC for giving this opportunity to collaborate in the organisation of this important training workshop. She also thanked the trainers and speakers for their efforts in preparing presentations for the technical sessions of the training and hoped that the experience of Morocco would be beneficial for the participants.

SESRIC developed and initiated its Poverty Alleviation Capacity Building Programme (PA-CaB) in 2011. The Programme aims at supporting and contributing to the efforts of the OIC Member Countries towards enhancing the institutional and human capacities of their national institutions working in the domain of poverty alleviation.
