Date: 11 September 2023
Venue: Ankara - Türkiye

H.E. M Amanul Haq, Ambassador of the People's Republic of Bangladesh to Ankara, paid a visit to the SESRIC headquarters. During his visit, Amb. Haq and H.E. SELÇUK held discussions focusing on enhancing the close relationship between Bangladesh and SESRIC within the OIC family.

Bangladesh has been a member of the OIC since 1974, and has played an essential role in the development of Islamic tourism within the OIC member countries. The ‘Strategic Roadmap for Development of Islamic Tourism in OIC Member Countries’ was adopted at the 10th Islamic Conference of Tourism Ministers (ICTM) in 2018 in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The country is also home to the Islamic University of Technology (IUT) since 1981, one of the subsidiary organs of the OIC.

H.E. SELÇUK highlighted SESRIC's ongoing efforts in research and data analysis, aiming at providing valuable information for evidence-based policy-making and decision-making in the OIC countries. In this regard, SESRIC's activities related to Bangladesh were covered during the meeting. Bangladesh has been recognised as one of the best performing OIC countries in various reports prepared by SESRIC and has been engaged in various capacity building activities.

The meeting focussed on potential areas of work between SESRIC and Bangladesh, including the signing of Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with Bangladeshi national institutions, joint events, projects, and studies, as well as support for Bangladeshi students studying in Türkiye through the SESRIC Emerging Talents Capacity Building Programme (SETCAB).

The visit of Amb. Haq to SESRIC HQs signifies the willingness of both Bangladesh and SESRIC to strengthening their ties and exploring opportunities for cooperation in various fields of interest that can be mutually beneficial and contribute to the development and well-being of the OIC community in general.
