Training Course on ‘Strengthening Practice of Ecotourism and Conservation in the OIC Region’

Within the framework of SESRIC’s Tourism Capacity Building Programme (Tourism-CaB) and in line with relevant resolutions of the 11th Session of the Islamic Conference of Tourism Ministers (ICTM) as well as the 38th Session of the COMCEC, SESRIC and the Islamic Centre for Development of Trade (ICDT) jointly organised a Training Course on “Strengthening Practice of Ecotourism and Conservation in the OIC Region” on 29-30 November 2023 through an online video conferencing platform.

The training course was provided by competent experts from the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of Türkiye, Türkiye Tourism Promotion Agency (TGA) as well as the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) for the benefit of 64 experts and executives from Ministries and relevant national institutions in charge of tourism in 23 OIC Member Countries.

The main objective of the training was to equip participants with comprehensive knowledge and skills essential for the transformation of destinations into self-sustaining, eco-friendly destinations. Over the two days of the training, the following topics were covered:

  • Nature Tourism: Principles and Resources
  • Activities of Nature Tourism
  • Effects of Nature Tourism on Economy and Environment
  • Marketing and Managing Ecotourism
  • The Importance of Ecotourism
  • Key Requirements for Ecotourism Projects to be Successful
  • Recent UNWTO Project Examples

SESRIC developed and initiated its Tourism Capacity Building Programme (Tourism-CaB) in 2015. The Programme aims at supporting and contributing to the efforts of the OIC Member Countries towards strengthening institutional and human resources capacities by sharing knowledge, experiences and best practices among the Ministries and relevant national institutions in charge of tourism. Within this framework of this Programme, the Centre organises capacity-building activities by using various modalities such as training courses, training workshops, and study visits.
