Study Visit on ‘Global Adult Tobacco Survey and Turkish Health Survey’ in Turkey

SESRIC organised a study visit on ' ‘Global Adult Tobacco Survey and Turkish Health Survey ' in collaboration with the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) on 18 and 21 November 2014, in Ankara, Turkey with the participation of Mr. Hamid Baghirov, First Deputy Chairman, and Mr. Yashar Pasha, Head of Population Living Standards and Household Budget Survey Statistics Department, State Statistical Committee (SSC) of the Republic of Azerbaijan, under the scope of a recent project initiated by SESRIC regarding the integration of TQS into ongoing national surveys in OIC Member States.

The delegation started the study visit by having a meeting with Mr. Birol Aydemir, President of TurkStat, and exchanged views in regard with the project. Besides, both institutions expressed their readiness for future collaboration activities. The delegation was briefed by the experts of TurkStat on the following items:

  • Global Adult Tobacco Survey for the period 2008-2012,
  • Turkish Health Survey- 2012 and prior applications for the implementation,
  • Turkish Health Survey and the Global Adult Tobacco Survey: Computing and sample sizes

The TQS integration will serve as a mechanism to harmonize and standardize the monitoring of key tobacco control indicators and promote sustainability and integration with other risk factors surveillance initiatives.
