Training Course on 'International Trade Statistics' in Afghanistan

In accordance with its 2017 Annual Work Plan and within the framework of Statistical Capacity Building (StatCaB) Programme, SESRIC has organised the Training Course on 'International Trade Statistics' at Central Statistics Organization (CSO) of Islamic Republic of Afghanistan on 8-10 January 2017.

The Training Course was conducted by Mr. Azizallah FARHADI, Leader of Group for Regional Accounts and Expenditure at the Statistical Centre of Iran (SCI), with the participation of 12 officials of CSO of Afghanistan.

As defined in the Classification of Statistical Activities (CSA Rev. 1 - October 2009; http://goo.gl/olg3Tz); International trade and balance of payments – deals with statistics on all cross border transactions recorded in the balance of payments, includes topics like trade in goods and services, external positions and debt, foreign direct investment, foreign affiliated trade, tariffs, market access, foreign aid, development assistance, and resource flows to developing countries.

The Training Course on 'International Trade Statistics' included discussion activities with a focus on the following topics:

  • Definition of terms, concepts and phrases
  • Review of related manuals (BPM, SNA)
  • Classifications and conversions
  • Trade types
  • Commercial transactions
  • Units involved in trade
  • Payment methods
  • Statistical sources
  • Special issues (smuggling)
  • Trade valuation
  • Trade at constant prices
  • Working with real data(case: I.R.IRAN)
