Technical Mission on ‘Tourism Statistics’ to Bangladesh

In accordance with its 2018 Annual Work Plan and within the framework of Statistical Capacity Building (StatCaB) Programme, SESRIC organised the Technical Mission on ‘Tourism Statistics’ to the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) on 22-24 October 2018.

Ms. Aishath Laila, expert at National Bureau of Statistics of Republic of Maldives, conducted the Technical Mission, with the participation of the relevant officials of BBS.

The Technical Mission included discussion activities with a focus on the following topics:

  • Basic definition of tourism statistics
  • Importance of tourism statistics
  • System of National Accounts (SNA) in relation to tourism statistics
  • Sharing the experience from the Maldives context
  • Measuring tourism demand & tourism supply
  • Employment in the tourism industries
  • Questionnaire design, data processing and Analysis
  • SDGs related to tourism statistics
