Statistics Course on ‘Business Statistics’ in Somalia

In accordance with its 2018 Annual Work Plan and within the framework of Statistical Capacity Building (StatCaB) Programme, SESRIC organised a Statistics Course on ‘Business Statistics’ at the Directorate of National Statistics (DNS), Ministry of Planning, Investment and Economic Development of Somalia on 22-24 October 2018.

Mr. Alphonse Okurut, Senior Statistician at Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS), conducted the Statistics Course, with the participation of relevant officials of DNS of Somalia.

The Course included practical sessions and discussion activities with a focus on the following topics:

  • Introduction to & Structure/Methods of Classification of Business Statistics
    • Scope, Sources & Coverage of Business Statistics
    • Classification of Business/Economic Activities (ISIC,NACE,HSC) – Business Classification using ISIC Rev4
  • Design of Data Collection Instruments/Tools
  • Analysis of Business Statistics Data
    • Introduction to Data Analysis using STATA
    • Introduction to Key Variables/Indicators computation in the Census of Business Establishments (COBE) / Business Inquiries
    • Introduction to Key Variables/Indicators in the Census of Business Establishments (COBE)
