Second High-level United Nations Conference on South-South Cooperation (BAPA+ 40 Conference)

The Second High-level United Nations Conference on South-South Cooperation (BAPA+40 Conference) hosted by the Republic of Argentina will take place on 20-22 March 2019 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The Presidency of the United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation (UNOSSC) will manage the secretariat of the preparatory process for the Conference.

For the second time in the history, the General Assembly of the United Nations decided to convene a high-level United Nations conference on South-South cooperation in Buenos Aires on the occasion of the fortieth anniversary of the adaptation of the Buenos Aires Plan of Action for Promoting and Implementing Technical Cooperation among Developing Countries.

The overarching theme of the (BAPA+40 Conference) is “The Role of South-South cooperation and the Implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development: Challenges and Opportunities”. The Conference aims to provide further momentum to encourage intensive and collaborative actions by developing southern countries, through partnerships and collaboration. Moreover, it will be an opportunity to discuss the progress made on South-South cooperation and triangular cooperation (SSTC) since the adaptation of Buenos Aires Plan of Action (BAPA) in 1978 Argentina and the role of SSTC in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda.

The BAPA+40 Conference will be attended by the high level representatives, including Heads of States and Governments, members of specialized agencies that have observer status with the UN General Assembly, intergovernmental organizations and all relevant stakeholders including civil society, the private sector, academic institutions, the scientific community, and philanthropic organizations whose work is related to the High-level Conference.
