Statistics Course on 'Household Surveys' in Kazakhstan

SESRIC organised a Statistics Course on ‘Household Surveys’ on 10-12 April 2019 at the Committee on Statistics of the Ministry of National Economics of Kazakhstan within the framework of OIC Statistical Capacity Building (StatCaB) Programme.

Mr. Yılmaz Erşahin, Mathematician at Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat), conducted the training course with the participation of 13 officials of the Committee on Statistics of the Ministry of National Economics of Kazakhstan.

The Course included discussion activities with a focus on the following topics:

  • Household budget survey sampling methodology - Situation in Turkey
    • Purpose
    • Strata definition
    • Sample size calculation
    • Sample size distribution and rotation pattern
    • Weighting: Design weights, non-response adjustment, calibration to projected population distributions
  • Variance calculation
  • Quality reporting
  • Institutional quality report - Turkey
  • Numerical illustration from the figures of Turkey
    • Numerical practice with participants.
  • General evaluation on numerical practice with participants.
  • Sampling methodology - Understanding the situation in Kazakhstan
    • Purpose of the survey
    • Analysis of the sampling frame in Kazakhstan
  • Alternatives of the sampling designs suitable for Kazakhstan
