Capacity Building Programme

The Capacity Building Programme is a long - term training programme and large scale capacity development project designed, steered and fully funded by the SESRIC. The Programme covers various public sectors from statistics, central banking, health to occupational health and safety. It involves collecting information from the relevant official authorities, assessing the needs and capacities of the member countries, twinning the provider and the receiver countries, implementing training through short - term courses or workshops, evaluating the outcomes and impacts of the training and disseminating the activities.

Training Course on 'Labour Cost' in Mali
Date : 28-30 December 2015 Venue : Bamako Mali

In accordance with its 2015 Annual Work Plan and within the framework of the Statistical Capacity Building (StatCaB) Programme, SESRIC organised the training course on “Labour Cost” at the National Directorate of Statistics and Informatics (INSTAT) of Mali on 28-30 December 2015. The course was conducted by Mr. Koffi Edmond Yao, Head of Centralization of Social Statistics Department at National Institute of Statistics of Cote d’Ivoire, with the participation of relevant officials of the INSTAT of Mali.
Study Visit on 'Poverty Statistics' in Egypt

Carried out under the support of COMCEC PCM Programme and coordinated by SESRIC, the project titled “Improving Statistical Capacities of OIC Member Countries in Poverty Statistics” aims at building statistical capacity in poverty statistics and overall contributing to the National Statistical Systems of the member countries of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) through capacity building programs including short-term trainings.
Training Course on ‘Cotton Biotechnology: Advance Crop Management Technologies’

Training Course on 'Module 2: Population and Housing Censuses' in Somalia

In accordance with its 2015 Annual Work Plan, SESRIC organised the training course on “Seed Development: Biotechnology Studies” at the Ministry of Agriculture, Republic of Azerbaijan on 9-10 December 2015, within the framework of the OIC Agriculture Capacity Building Programme (OIC-AgriCaB). The course was conducted by Dr. Cuma KARAOĞLU and Ms. Hülya Özcan expert at Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock, Republic of Turkey with the participation of experts from Ministry of Agriculture and relevant Agricultural Institutions, Republic of Azerbaijan.

Training Course on ‘Water Management: Using Modern Irrigation Facilities’

In line with the decision of the Fourth Islamic Conference of Health Ministers held in Jakarta, Indonesia in October 2013, SESRIC and UNFPA Arab States Regional Office launched the First Expert Meeting of the OIC Network on Population and Reproductive, Maternal, New-born and Child Health which took place at SESRIC Headquarters in Ankara, Turkey, on 2-4 December 2015. The meeting was participated by a group of interdisciplinary experts in this area from OIC region who engage in collective efforts to share information and knowledge in an endeavour to improve OIC RMNCH Net.

In accordance with its 2015 Annual Work Plan and within the framework of the Statistical Capacity Building (StatCaB) Programme, SESRIC organised the training course on “Labour Statistics” at the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), Ministry of Finance and Treasury of Maldives on 24-26 November 2015. The course was conducted by Mr. Kabir Uddin Ahmed, Joint Director, Industry and Labour Wing of Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS), with the participation of 20 officials of the NBS of Maldives.
Training Course on 'Informal Sector Statistics' in Malaysia
Date : 18-20 November 2015 Venue : Putrajaya Malaysia

In accordance with its 2015 Annual Work Plan, SESRIC organised the training course on ‘Informal Sector Statistics’ at the Department of Statistics (DoS) of Malaysia on 18-20 November 2015, within the framework of the Statistical Capacity Building (StatCaB) Programme. The course was conducted by Mr. Toto Silitonga, Expert at BPS Provincial Office of South East Sulawesi with participation of relevant officials of DoS.
Training Workshop on ‘Islamic Banking and Liquidity Management’
Date : 16-17 November 2015 Venue : Istanbul Türkiye

The Centre, in collaboration with World Bank Global Islamic Finance Development Center (GIFDC) and Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (CBRT) organized a training workshop on “Islamic Banking and Liquidity Management” in İstanbul, Turkey during 16-17 November 2015. The training workshop participated by the middle to senior level representatives from central banks and other regulatory institutions who are interested in Islamic banking, Islamic financial markets and instruments and Islamic liquidity management in financial institutions.

In accordance with its 2015 Annual Work Plan and within the framework of the Statistical Capacity Building (StatCaB) Programme, SESRIC organised the training course on “Effective Written Communication Techniques" at the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) in Abuja, Federal Republic of Nigeria on 11-13 November 2015. The course was conducted by Mr. Godfrey Nabongo, Manager of Communication and Public Relations Department at the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS), with the participation of relevant officials of the NBS of Nigeria.

In accordance with its 2015 Annual Work Plan and within the framework of the Statistical Capacity Building (StatCaB) Programme, SESRIC organised the training course on “Business Registers” at the Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics (MDPS) of Qatar on 3-5 November 2015. The course was conducted by Ms. Siti Haslinda Mohd Din, Director of Methodology & Research Division at Department of Statistics (DOS) of Malaysia, with the participation of 24 officials of the MDPS of Qatar.
General Guidelines on Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) was endorsed

The General Guidelines on Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) was endorsed by the Third Islamic Conference of Labour Ministers (ICLM) held in Jakarta, Indonesia on 28-30 October 2015. The guideline document was originally drafted by the members of the OIC Occupational Safety and Health Network (OIC OSHNET) following a workshop on “Occupational Safety and Health Regulations and Standards” that was jointly organised with the Standards and Metrology Institute for Islamic Countries (SMIIC), Islamic Development Bank (IDB) and the Ministry of Labour and Social Security of Turkey in Istanbul, Turkey on 4 May 2014.
Training Course on 'Tourism Statistics' in Malaysia

In accordance with its 2015 Annual Work Plan, SESRIC organised the training course on ‘Tourism Statistics’ at the Department of Statistics (DoS) of Malaysia on 26-28 October 2015, within the framework of the Statistical Capacity Building (StatCaB) Programme. The course was conducted by Mr. Akhmad Tantowi, Expert at BPS-Statistics Indonesia with participation of relevant officials of DoS.
Skill Development for Youth Employment (SDYE) Project: Study Visit to Cameroon
Date : 19-23 October 2015 Venue : Yaoundé Cameroon

The Centre in collaboration with Turkish Employment Agency (İŞKUR) organised a study visit to Ministry of Employment and Vocational Training (MINEFOB), Cameroon on 19-23 October within the context of Labour Market Analysis in pursuance to transfer of Skill 10 Project. The study visit was conducted by Mr. Mustafa Özen, Employment Expert and Mr. Yasin Çakmak, Assistant Employment Expert from the Turkish Employment Agency. There have been working sessions with National Employment Fund, Chamber of Commerce, National Institute of Statistic, The Interpatronal Grouping of Cameroon (GICAM) and the other related partners of the project. Yaoundé and Douala, the two industrial cities where the project will be executed were also visited for the relevant assessment to be made in the next phases.

The course was conducted by Mr. Kourosh Javadi Pashaki, Expert at the Statistical Centre of Iran of the Islamic Republic of Iran with participation of relevant officials of CSO.
Training for Trainers on “Methods of Control of Pest, Disease and Weeds in Cotton”
Date : 06-07 October 2015 Venue : Namialo-Nampula Mozambique

In collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security of Mozambique, SESRIC organised a two day Training for Trainers on “Methods of Control of Pest, Disease and Weeds in Cotton” in Namialo-Nampula, Mozambique. The target group of this two day ToT was the experts, farmers and staffs from different relevant institutions, namely, Mozambique Institute for Cotton (IAM), Forum for Cotton Farmers (FONPA), Nova Algodoeira, and China Africa Cotton. Training Course on ‘‘Green House Farming’’
Date : 16-17 September 2015 Venue : Kampala Uganda

The Centre in collaboration with the Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU), Uganda organised a two day training course on ‘‘Green House Farming’’ in Kampala, Uganda. The target group of this two day training course was the potential entrepreneurs of green-house farming and staffs from different relevant institutions of Uganda. The two day training course was conducted by the experts, Mr. Veysel Aras, Agricultural Engineer at the Alata Horticultural Research Institute, Department of Breeding and Genetic in the constitution of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Livestock, Turkey and Dr. Ayhan Aydin. 2nd International Islamic Economics and Finance Summer School

The Centre organised the 2nd International Islamic Economics and Finance Summer School on 13-15 September 2015 in Istanbul, Turkey, in collaboration with Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University International Research and Study Centre of Islamic Economics and Finance. The main purpose of the summer school to was to give fundamental knowledge about Islamic economics and finance, encourage academic studies in the field and provide an opportunity for the specialists in the field to cooperate in and promote Islamic finance.

Inaugural Meeting for the Maternal and Child Survival Project

As part of the implementation of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Strategic Health Programme of Action (SHPA), the OIC General Secretariat, SESRIC and the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) in partnership with the United States Agency for International development (USAID) and the World Health Organisation (WHO) have initiated the “Maternal and Child Survival Project.” The inaugural meeting for the Maternal and Child Survival Project took place in Ankara, Turkey between the period 19-21 January 2015 with participation of 7 OIC member countries that are: Afghanistan, Cameroon, Chad, Guinea, Mauritania, Nigeria and Somalia.
